How it all began

At the age of 45, I, Arthur Wyss, slim, athletic, was already spending nights with a respirator (CPAP). That can't be possible and I had to do something about it:
Familiar with medical-technical equipment, I set out on my own to find a simpler solution to my sleep problem.
In India, many years ago, I was watching a yoga guru doing an experience which helped me, 20 years later, to develop a small instrument preventing me from snoring and guaranteed me a free air channel during sleep.

The road to a satisfactory result was paved with countless experiments in a specially designed sleep laboratory. They consisted of filming inside the pharynx during sleep in different positions and of countless conversations with specialists in various fields.

Thus, the Velumount method, which I personally developed, has today proven its effectiveness against snoring and sleep apnea in several scientific studies.

I'm particularly pleased that our original Velumount method has contributed to an improvement in the quality of life for many of those affected.

Arthur Wyss - the inventor of the Velumount method against snoring.

Velumount became famous thanks to SRF editor Christian Breitschmid. Read his report written on the 15th anniversary of Velumount:

From Journalist to De-snorer

It began with the main topic "snoring" in a pulse program aired by Swiss television. A charismatic man from Bern showed his own invention. After the show, the wires ran hot. Everyone wanted the ingenious anti-snoring brace.

Like many great inventions, the discovery of Velumount® is based on various factors: personal affliction, innovative spirit and timing.

Fifteen years ago, I was a producer and editor of the Swiss Television show Pulse, the health magazine.
At the beginning of 2005, we were planning a show about the problems of snoring and sleep apnea. Therefore, I began doing research about these subjects. I was surprised at how many anti-snoring remedies exist on the market. I was even more amazed at how many people fall for questionable promises of salvation loosing lots of money during the process.
In the archives of Swiss television, I found an earlier Pulse episode that dealt with surgery of the soft palate and the cervical uvula. This program featured a sympathetic man from Berne who had his surgery filmed in order to report about the success or failure of the procedure. That man was Arthur "Türu" Wyss. Since the surgery couldn't fix his snoring and sleep apnea, Türu began experimenting on his own.

I really wanted to have this man on my show

The trained technician quickly learnt that he could only manage his fluttering soft palate and airway obstruction mechanically. Thus, he developed an functional and simple aid consisting of a fine surgical wire encased in hypoallergenic plastic, which supports the soft palate through gentle tension preventing it from fluttering.

I really wanted to have this man on my show. So I invited him to test his "Velum tractor" against other anti-snoring gadgets in the sleeping lab. The success of his method can be heard and seen in the pulse episode of January 24, 2005 under the title "Volkssport Schnarchen".

What happened after this show aired noone involved would have expected: The phones at the Swiss TV station and the phone of Türu Wyss was running off the hook. Snorers and people suffering from sleep apnoea all over Switzerland contacted us, desperately wanting to have such an anti-snoring brace.

Overnight, the modest tinkerer from Bern had become an known inventor throughout Switzerland. To meet the high demand, Türu Wyss and his wife, Monika Müller, began offering workshops. For this occasion, Türu renamed his Velum tractor with the now registered name Velumount®. I also reported on these workshops in Puls. In the broadcast of June 13, 2005, I showed how Türu instructs people who snore on how to use the simple anti-snoring brace. During this shooting I realized once more that something great was happening here. This fine man with his big heart and alert mind had not only made a wonderful invention, but he also had the gift of treating people like people and not like patients or like a number. It's also this direct and uninhibited connection with people that makes Türu Wyss a credible and winning interlocutor.

In the meantime, there are a few thousand people worldwide who, thanks to Velumount®, are able to sleep snore-free and even without interruptions of breath. One of them is myself. It all started a few years ago. At first, they were isolated remarks from my wife: "Hey, you sure were snoring tonight..." Then it happened more and more often that she shook me awake at night because of my snoring. Finally, I realized that only one person could help: Türu Wyss. So we got together again. This time no longer as a journalist and interview partner, but as a client and anti-snoring expert. The reporter became a sufferer and, thanks to Türu's help, quickly a snorer. Today, I can wholeheartedly recommend the use of Velumount® from my own experience.

Scientific studies prove the effectiveness of the anti-snoring brace

It is understandable that the Lung League and many medical specialists, who earn money by renting expensive CPAP devices, are not happy about the success of Velumount®. However, it becomes hypocritical when such specialists demand scientific studies, but then do not support them or prevent their publication. I praise my former colleagues from television who, for example in Kassensturz (SF, 4.4.2006) or in Reporter ("Der Entschnarcher", SF, 15.6.2011), clearly show that a good idea prevails, even against the resistance of envious people. The "Decongestor" continues to tinker. Türu Wyss and his Velumount® convince with their connection to people.

velumount sails for success

Despite strong headwinds and high waves at times, Arthur Wyss, the inventor of Velumount method, did not let himself be blown off course. On the contrary, his Velumount GmbH has been in business since 2005.

The desnorer sails in the interdisciplinary field of tension between the providers of CPAP positive pressure devices and the ear, nose and throat (ENT) specialists.
